About Dr. Michele Patterson Ford
My practice is grounded in the belief that healing comes not only from addressing current struggles, but also from recognizing and building on your existing strengths. I often use the image of a keystone—the final piece of an arch that locks everything into place and allows it to bear weight—as a metaphor for this process. Similarly, my goal is to help you become a more integrated, resilient individual. Together, we can work to build the strength needed to manage life’s daily hassles as well as its major stressors.
My therapeutic style is primarily interpersonal, with humanistic and cognitive-behavioral influences. This means I take a warm, nonjudgmental approach to helping you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and relationships—so we can create meaningful, lasting change. I do more than just listen: I collaborate with you to identify your goals and actively work toward them together.
In addition to my clinical work, I serve as Chair and Senior Lecturer in the Psychology Department at Dickinson College. I specialize in disordered eating, body image, trauma, and psychological assessment, and I also consult with behavioral health organizations. My insights have been featured in national media outlets such as The Washington Post, Good Housekeeping, and U.S. News & World Report, and I speak regularly on topics related to mental health, self-care, and wellness.
Clients describe me as compassionate, thoughtful, and gently challenging. I bring energy, creativity, and integrity to my work—and my goal is always to help you feel heard, supported, and empowered to make meaningful progress.
